Dr Sophie Berkemeier

Dr Sophie Berkemeier is an Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist with a passion for womens health. Growing up in Sydney she attended the University of Sydney where she studied medicine, during which developed a keen interest in women’s health. Dr Berkemeier completed most of her speciality training in South Western Sydney at Liverpool and Campbelltown hospitals.

Once she obtained her Fellowship she practiced as a consultant Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist in Northern NSW. She has returned to South West Sydney and is currently appointed as a staff specialist at Macarthur health services as well as being part of the team at Nureva Womens Specialist Health.

Sophie practises women centred, evidence-based, holistic medical care. Her professional interests include preventative health care, cervical screening and colposcopy, minimally invasive surgery (including laparoscopic hysterectomy) and the management of menstrual disorders and pelvic pain. Sophie also has a passion for teaching as is actively involved in training and supervising of junior doctors. Since completing her medical degree in 2009 she has been actively involved in the education and mentoring of medical students and junior doctors, enjoying this aspect of her job immensely.

Sophie also loves travelling, cycling, reading about medical and modern history and spending time with her young daughter. She is married to a Veterinarian and hence they have a home filled with many creatures great and small.
